Grandmother Moon Teachings - Women's Wellness Retreat Enjoy a secluded getaway in the Mississaugi River Valley in the heartland of Algoma at Wharncliffe Wilderness Retreat and Learning Center. Spend a few days enjoying the beauty this area has to offer, rejuvenate your spirit and nurture your creative talents enjoying a women's wellness retreat.
Day 1 Arrive in the late afternoon, begin with a introduction to the farm, it's hosts and the surrounding area. Enjoy a sweetgrass welcome ceremony, a chanting of a women's traditional hand drum singing group as they share the meaning of their songs, how the drum was made and the where the songs come from. Later enjoy a home cooked meal . The evening will be spent in a sharing/healing circle and depending upon the season either an outdoor fire or one by the fireplace. Day 2Enjoy and hearty breakfast of healthy foods - fresh fruit and breads. Meet local crafts person, knowledgeable and skilled in bead and leather work, and dream catcher and shield making. Make your own medicine pouch / dream catcher while learning about the teachings behind these sacred items. In the afternoon enjoy a medicine walk on the farm, learn about the plants and how they heal our bodies. Listen to your guide as they provide you with their knowledge and wisdom of their ancestors and what has been passed down to them. In the evening enjoy a traditional feast, before beginning the Grandmother Moon sharing circle and cedar baths. Learn about the traditional philosophies and values of Canada's First Nations people. Day 3Enjoy a sunrise ceremony at dawn, before breakfast. Then join in a closing circle before you begin your journey home.
